About the Course
Beginner Nose Work/Scent Work Class: This class offers an introduction to nose work for dogs who have no experience with the sport. The team (yes, nose work is a team sport!) learns nose work from the ground up. By the end of the first session, your dog will be able to find a designated scent and tell you where it is located. One of the numerous benefits of nose work is how communication between dog and handler is further developed. The handler will begin to learn to read and understand what their dog is “saying” as well as how their innate communications impact their dog.
Intermediate Nose Work/Scent Work Class: This class is appropriate for dogs who have completed the Beginner Nose Work Class or who have a similar level of experience. Here the dog will learn to find “hides” of different scents and his or her skills will be honed in terms of accuracy and communication. In addition, the handler will learn the nuances of their very active and important role as a member of a nose work team. If competition is the goal, at this point the team will be actively prepped to do so successfully.
Advanced Nose Work/Scent Work Class: This class is appropriate for dogs who have completed the Intermediate Nose Work Class or who have an advanced level of experience in nose work. Here the team will be challenged with increasingly difficult searches in order to fully prepare them for whatever will be encountered in competition. The instructor uses these difficult searches to reveal the finer points and issues of searching and handling for each team.
